Clearance at The Teeter

I ran into HT to pick up one thing - yes, only one thing - when I saw the clearance carts (6!) near the checkouts.  I didn't bring my coupon binder in the store with me because I was planning to buy only one thing but I quickly ran out to my car to get it.   To make a long story short, I came out with more than my one item.  I ended up with a pre-coupon, pre-VIC card, pre-clearance total of $78.01.  My out-of-pocket cost was $20.02.

This brings up the big debate in the couponing world - should a saver clip all coupons or only the ones that will be used, storing the rest of the insert (or not) for future use?  If you know me, you know that I clip EVERYTHING and store the Qs in one of two binders.  One binder of items I think I may use and another of items I don't think I'll ever use.  Clipping everything takes more of a time commitment but I think it adds up to more savings.  One way isn't the right way or the better way but it boils down to what works for each person.  I would not have considered purchasing the four boxes of Playtex tampons if I had to pay even the marked down price.  But when each box is only $ .30 (after the $1.50 Q), I tossed the boxes in my cart and I know that someone at Haven House, my new favorite non-profit, will be able to use them.  I don't think they spoil or go bad...

I also purchased two boxes of fabric softener sheets, 64 oz. juice, hand sanitizer wipes (free after coupon!), lots of snacks for the car ride to Minnesota, Tide to Go for when the snacks get messy on the road trip, ketchup, blueberries, and bananas.  The blueberries were a great deal at $1.65/pt.

I'm sad that I will be out of town for most, if not all of super doubles week.  In the days leading up to the sale, it might be a good idea to load ZVR coupons to your VIC card.  (ZVRs are electronic coupons.)  I learned yesterday that the store will deduct both the ZVR and paper coupons for the same item.  ZVRs don't double but it's extra savings any way you look at it.    I thought you could use either a paper coupon or an electronic one.  This is one case where I'm glad I was wrong!

Did you get any good deals today?
